Could Rush be the greatest band ever?

It’s possible. Rush is such an amazing band! I just wanted to let the world know that. This realization came to me as I was walking to campus listening to such all-time great songs such as “La Villa Strangiato” and “Time Stand Still”. From the sweet bass riffs to the groovy beats, Rush is the ambrosia of rock music. Admittedly, these guys may not look like much, but beyond mere appearances, they are true rock and roll warriors of the soul. Will there be a Rush for our generation? Not likely, for such sheer brilliance comes, like comets and other such cosmological phenomena, grace our presence but once in a very long while. However, we may enjoy the Rush of our fathers, the Rush of the ’70’s, the Rush that rocks the soul.

Hahaha, that was a fittingly epic tribute to perhaps the most awesome band ever to walk the earth! Everything you said was totally true, and I admire your unbridled enthusiasm. I must boldly add my testimony to yours: RUSH IS THE SWEETEST BAND EVER!!!

No doubt, Rush is amazing! Giving them the title of greatest ever is a little hard, considering The Beatles, which, to me, were the greatest. But, I have Rush as a VERY close second to the Fab Four. Rush is truly a versatile, most phenomenally talented band. But there’s a lot of awesome bands in history: Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Cream, Pink Floyd, The Who, Stones, Eagles, The Doors, Def Leppard, ZZ Top, Skynyrd, Yes, Kiss. It’s just really hard to call Rush the greatest ever in company like that. Actually, it’d be hard to call any of those “The” greatest. They’re all SO good! One thing though: I think I’d call Rush the greatest “live” band of all time! They’re just amazing live!!! And Neil Pert has to be the best drummer in the history of music… period!

Rush is great band – but they sound too much like Styx.

I think you’re absolutely wrong on that one. Listen to Leave That Thing Alone, and tell me that sounds like Styx. I like Styx, but Styx is nowhere near as good. Also, I don’t think anything about Rush sounds remotely like Styx except maybe Geddy’s voice.

Take away the awesome catalog of music. Take away the long touring schedule of arenas or better. Take away the intelligence of the music. Take away some of the creativity. Take away the rabid fan base that stretches across generations. You got Styx. Styx is the Holiday Inn Band and Rush is the Ritz.

Yes Rush is indeed the greatest band of all time. We will probably never see another band like them. Maybe when a new form of music rolls around, Rush will be reborn

It doesn’t matter when one realizes the gravity of Rush. It does matter that you have realized it along with the countless other who “get it”. Rush transcends generations and your metaphor regarding cosmological activity is a very cogent one. Rush will continue to impact countless musicians and non-musicians alike for decades and generations to come. “For I have dined on honeydew and drunk the milk of paradise”

Without a doubt Rush is the best band ever… their longevity, musicianship and song writing are all unmatched
Being able to make 18 (soon to be 19) studio records, maintain the most passionate and hardcore fan base in music and never succumb to the pressures of the music industry makes them one of a kind
I saw them June 30th in Vancouver, it brought tears to my eyes, they are the greatest band to ever be created or WILL ever be created… Cheers from Canada!

Easily the best band ever, and I type this with the utmost confidence… Their body of work is more impressive than almost any other band, they are 3 of the greatest musicians in the history of rock music, they are far and away the best live band ever, their sophistication is coupled with a cheeky sense of humor but their integrity remains unparallelled… And, people can say their music is “weird” (which i will agree, it is) but they have to face the fact that the fan base speaks for itself. Rush fans are the most loyal fans in music, and are so devoted to the band because they are simply that awesome! Better lyrics than Zeppelin, more technical ability than the Beatles, and as good as song writers as you will EVER FIND, past, present or future… RUSH, the greatest band that has ever been or will ever be.

Rush is the undeniable best band ever. Being a musician there is no other band that inspires me the way rush does. Especially Alex Lifeson. Its sad that Alex is one of the most underrated guitarist in rock. Anyone can play guitar and im proof of that but no one can put as much emotion and pure musical genius behind theyre music like Alex, Geddy, and Neil

  12. Rush is a kind of band that you, literally, cannot describe. Their musicality level is just beyond the boundary, and anyone who says the opposite deserves to reconsider their lack of experience and criterion.

Have you ever heard their sound? Is amazing that only THREE guys can do SUCH a sound. They keep their line-up form for more than 30 years and they gave us (and keep giving us) a variety of sounds, rhythms and styles that is just incomparable. Together, Alex, Geddy and Neil form a sound that is unapproachable and unique, with a range of styles such as progressive rock, hard rock, reggae and with a diversity of sounds that is peerless.

I have been listening to Rush since I was a small child and I have never, EVER got tired of hearing them. With classics such as Tom Sawyer, Limelight, 2112, La Villa Strangiato, Time Stand Still, Working Man, The Trees, The Spirit of Radio and Roll the Bones and more underrated songs such as The Pass, Kid Gloves, Marathon, Territories, Red Barchetta and Take a Friend, they have a SUBERB setlist. Besides, they have more than twenty albums and an experience that is unrivaled, simply. Look.

Neil Peart is considered by many critics the best drummer of all time. Speed, technique, stamina and wish of always getting better are aspects that definitely put him into the top. He even needs a 360° drum kit to achieve this fucking level of perfection that nobody had ever entered. It intrigues me the fact that almost nobody knows the lyric work he does. His lyrics are so complex and so designing that only a few people can get the idea he tries to send us. And he send us this ideas with a level of excellence that is matchless.

Geddy Lee is also considered by many critics one of the best bassists ever, if not the best. He can keep the rhythm perfectly and still put some notes that I cannot even describe. If you look at Rush’s live performances, you can see that he solo in EVERY SINGLE song. Without even looking at the bass. Besides, he plays the bass, the bass synthesisers and sings, all at the same fucking time. AND he can also play the keyboards.

Alex Lifeson can be easily considered one of the most underrated guitarrists of all time. He can match his level of technique at the guitar with his humilty very well, and that amazes me. You doubt of this level of technique? Go listen to The Spirit of Radio or La Villa Strangiato and you will know what I am fucking talking about.

Rush’s components keep inspiring people all over the world and the proper band inspired people and bands like Metallica, Primus and Dream Theater. Rush is the third band with most gold, platinum and multi-platinum records of the world and its album sales exceed 40 MILLION UNITS. Come on. I mean, SHIT, come on. IT IS THE BEST BAND EVER. AND IT WILL BE UP TO THE END OF MANKIND.
